Giving Methods & Deadlines
Mailed Checks (USPS)
Your check must be postmarked on or before December 31, 2025.
Important Update: As of December 24, 2025, the USPS changed how postmarks are applied — and it may affect year-end mailed donations.
Here’s what’s different:
Postmarks are now often added at regional processing centers, not your local post office. That means a postmark date could appear days after you drop your mail off, which may impact whether a mailed gift counts for your 2025 tax deduction.
To help ensure your mailed gift is counted correctly this year, we recommend one of these options:
- Visit your local post office in person. Don’t drop your envelope in a mailbox or use a self-service kiosk.
- Manual Postmark: Ask USPS staff to apply a manual (local) postmark.
- Additional Options: Buy a Certificate of Mailing or use Registered/Certified Mail for proof of mailing date.
Online Donations / Credit Cards
Your donation must be successfully completed and charged by 11:59 PM MT on December 31, 2025.
- The date you pay your credit card bill does not affect the tax year
- If mailing credit card information, it must arrive by December 27 to allow time for processing

Wire Transfers / EFTs
Funds must be received and cleared in the charity’s account by 2:00 PM MT on December 31, 2025.
To avoid delays, we strongly recommend initiating wire or EFT transfers several business days in advance —ideally by December 27–28.
Stock or Securities Transfers
These gifts often take weeks to complete.
- The gift date is generally the day your broker transfers the assets into the charity’s account.
- To ensure your gift counts for 2025, initiate transfers by mid-December.
- For complex assets, starting in November is even safer.
